Greetings and Salutations!

I hope this email and newsletter attachment find you doing well. Outside of the occasional poison ivy bout by the children, all is well on this end.

The summer is slowing here and signs of fall are popping up all around. For me, this means getting my gathering of firewood finished up pretty quickly. I was able to pick up a wood stove for $100 and am feeling pretty well blessed. I love wood heat and while I am not wishing cold to come rushing in, I anticipate the first fire of the year. I enjoy the smell of the smoke and the pop of the wood.

This last month I was able to attend Polishing the Pulpit. Once again, the did a fantastic job of bringing superb speakers and attracting many wonderful brothers and sisters from numerous states and even out of the country. It is a time of energy, study, growth, friendship, and fun that my family and I look forward to every year. Get your calendars out now and plan your vacation to PTP for next August. It is an experience you will not regret.

In addition to PTP, I was able to go and hear a very dear friend of mine speak in Lorain, OH. Dan Jenkins came all the way up from Florida to speak in a lectureship they had. Though I only made it one night, it was a joy to see his face again and for the first time, meet his wife. Dan is a fine preacher and an inspiration to me and my family. When you join Dan, his wife, Phil Sanders, the other speakers, and the Lorain congregation, you really have a great time going on. Certainly God was glorified by their activities.

While my family is attending the Fredericktown Church of Christ here in ohio (and myself on Wed). I have been blessed to be able to drive a little over an hour and preach 3 lessons a week at the New London Church of Christ. I will continue doing this until they find someone. If anyone is interested, they are a very nice congregation of about 40. The drawback for some preachers will be that the congregation can only pay $250 a week. Thus, they are looking for someone that can bring support or are in a situation where there is not a large financial need. Feel free to email me if you have questions or contact them directly.

As a final note, Kevin Cauley, one of the instructors at the Southwest School of Preaching (and dear friend of mine) has recently published the following website that I encourage you to visit and bookmark: http://christianworker.us/ .

I hope you all enjoy the newsletter this month. Please feel free to use it in your congregations and pass it on where you will.

God Bless,

Greetings and Salutations to all!

Attached is the Newsletter for August. I cannot believe it is August already. It is my sincere hope that your summer has gone well and that God has been glorified in your life.

The last month has been quite a joy to me. The 6th Annual Preachersfiles Lectureship was held in Courtland, Alabama and it was fantastic. This is a lectureship I have the privilege of taking part in each year. It is my belief that the lessons this year were the best I have heard yet. They were simply fantastic. My particular lesson was entitled, "How Much Should I Date?". I highly encourage folks to check it out and pass it on to young folks engaged in or contemplating the dating process. It will be a great help to them as they evaluate their options. The lesson can be found at: http://video.stumbleupon.com/#p=c1l8sbrwtx and will be added to That Christian website later this month. No, it may not be the prettiest video you ever saw, nor is the audio perfect, but I promise you the content is worth the time to listen.

In addition to the lectureship, the opportunity also arose for me to write an article for the Carolina Messenger which will be coming out in a few weeks. The topic is on the 70 AD doctrine and is a joint effort between myself and 3 other writers. My portion of the writing focuses on key scriptures used by Preterists and examines how the scriptures are twisted. I was very honored to take part in the publication and hope the effort proves fruitful to all who have the opportunity to read it. If you do not already receive a copy of their publication, past issues are available online at http://carolinamessenger.com/pastissues.html.

With the arrival of next month, I am going to begin to seek out support for the preaching and teaching efforts I am engaged in. My aim is to receive support for a year. Since our move from Wyoming, I have been able to fill in with various congregations as well as hold gospel meetings, but the income has been minimal and there have been no full time positions available. If anyone has suggestions in regard to seeking out support, I would appreciate the feedback.

Thank you to everyone who has been visiting That Christian Website throughout the summer. It makes me very pleased to know that the work I engage in and the material put forth is being used and aiding souls around the world. Please do continue to visit and link to the site as more and more material will continue to be added in the months and years ahead.

God Bless,
Greetings!

I am currently working on a lesson regarding courtship/dating. If possible, I would like responses to the following three questions:

1. What are the top 10 things a boy or girl should know about the other person before beginning the courtship process?

2. As as parent what are the top 3 reasons you would refuse to let your child court another?

3. Do you identify yourself as a Christian?

Thank you greatly for your participation.

Please feel free to pass on to others you may know and have them mail the responses to preacher@thatchristianwebsite.com.

Greetings to all!

July has arrived and I pray this letter finds folks well. Before, I get rolling on the things happening on this end, let me mention attached is the newsletter for July. Feel free to utilize the newsletter for your own edification or for your congregations. This months puzzle is probably a bit easier than some, but it is a bit tricky too. Enjoy!

As for myself and my family, we are settling into our new home in Ohio. There has been a lot of tree cutting, wood chopping, burning, plumbing, and construction/destruction. Our home was minus a furnace, heat pump, and water heater when we first began, but all is functioning now and just in time for the heat to hit. We are really enjoying the new place and remembering what "dark" really means since we are now out away from cities again. We are also discovering the joys of ticks, poison ivy/oak, and insects (as you will see from the newsletter). Of interesting note is the fact that we have a honey bee hive in the soffit of our cabin. Removing them is going to "bee" an experience I have no doubt and I may just have to write about it next month. I am hoping it is a sweet experiment and not a stinging reminder that I know nothing about bees.

I was able to attend a couple of nice lectureships this month as well as enjoy the Fredericktown Church of Christ VBS. I taught a lesson Good Stewardship and Time during the VBS, but have yet to upload it. However, I did upload 6 other sermons given at the start of this month. Do not forget there is a lectureship in Courtland Alabama the 27-29th of July - The Preachersfiles Lectureships which I attend each year. This year I will be speaking on "How Much Should I Date?". The theme of the lectureship is "Ancient Problems in Modern Times". There will be a number of speakers and I encourage anyone who is nearby to come out.

Though my schedule is pretty full through August, I am available and trying to fill time for the remainder of this year and into next for gospel meetings or Saturday seminars. Wherever you are, I will be willing to talk to you about coming out. This year I want to focus on the topics of Marriage, Dancing, Alcohol, Legalism, the Holy Spirit, the Plan of salvation, and the 70 AD doctrine. However, if something else interests you I would be willing to tackle it given the time.

Time for me to get back to work! Have a good month!

God Bless,

Greetings to all!

I hope this email finds you all doing well. If your last few months have been anything like mine they have been swamped. You will note there was not a newsletter last month due to the fact that my family and I have been house hunting for the last two months. We finally found the home we were looking for and will be moving in this coming week. It is amazing the amount of time and exhaustion that can come from such a search. We looked at over 40 homes and view hundreds hundreds online. With all of the effort, That Christian Website has not seen many new articles or sermons posted, however, that will change as we move on through the summer. Thank you so much for your patience.

I am currently out in Granby, Missouri, enjoying the fellowship of the Granby Church of Christ. I began a meeting for the congregation Sunday morning and have presented the following lessons: 1- The Plan of Salvation; 2 - The Remedy for Sin, 3- Forgiveness, 4- Attendance at Christian Assemblies, and 5 - Hospitality. Tonight I will finish up the meeting with the sixth sermon entitled "The Importance of Remaining Faithful". All of these sermons will be posted on the website this next week, but video of them can be seen at the Granby Church of Christ. One warning, though the information was sound, I was a bit disappointed with the first lesson in the series. It ended up a bit rushed because... well... I got lost before services started. I have been to Granby many times, however, this time I forgot where the building was located. I did arrive about the time to start, but it did cause us to start a bit late. A fuller non-video version will be posted at That Christian Websi
te instead of the live version. Outside of the first lesson, I think the other lessons are very informative and I hope those who listen to them will learn much. The congregation down here is just fantastic btw. They are always welcoming and it is like home for me. My thanks to them for having me out. If you are ever there they certainly would enjoy you stopping by.

I have yet to stop by Joplin, Missouri, but I will be driving through on Thursday. I did deliver some items to one of the preachers from the Joplin area whose congregation suffered great losses from the tornado. He came to the Tuesday night meeting and expressed gratefulness to the many who have reached out to the congregation he is at and the area at large.

This month's attached newsletter is minus a puzzle, but plus an article. Next month the puzzle will return, but with all of the things happening the last two months it was a casualty. As always feel free to use the newsletter for your personal use or for your congregations.

Greetings all,

I wanted to share this email with you for those who would like to help out the folks of Joplin, Missouri. I will be traveling through there myself in the next two weeks and will likely share some information when I send out my newsletter.

God Bless,

Travis Main

*********************************
Dear brethren,

Please excuse the mass email. However I wanted to inform as many brethren as possible. Several have called me to ask about the situation and the brethren in Joplin, MO and the tornado that hit Joplin about 6 o’clock Sunday evening, May 22, 2011.

When I arrived Monday to teach at the Bible Institute of Missouri, I suggested to the students about going to Joplin to help out which they agreed. Thus, we left around 12:30 and arrived in Joplin around 1:30 in the afternoon. At that time because of the rain, they were not sending out any new rescue crews. However, we were able to help with their missing persons hotline which we did until 6 or 6:30 that evening. When we started, those in charge said they had over 700 known missing persons. The last thing I heard yesterday was that number was over a thousand.

Yesterday, Brent Green and I along with a couple of other men went back. This time we were able to help with some clean-up. Then later in the day (around 4), we were able to make our way over to the building of the 26th and Connecticut Church of Christ. Their building sat on the edge of the horrific destruction area. They had quite a bit of damage and the roof on one corner of their building completely gone. On Monday, their auditorium had 2-3 inches of water in it. Of course, that is bad enough but certainly not the worse part. They have five families who houses were completely destroyed. Of those, three of the four members of one family were killed. The daughter was away at college, and sadly she lost both parents and a brother in the storm. In addition, a sister of one of our members at Kansas Expressway church in Springfield was killed in the storm.

Several have asked me what they can do to help, and here is my suggestion. The best thing you can do is to send funds to help with the various costs involved in this kind of destruction. Because of the damage to their building, the 26th & Connecticut church cannot receive material goods. One of the elders of that congregation gave me this address for anyone who would like to help financially. Please send your check to the 26th and Connecticut Church of Christ, P.O. Box 45, Joplin, MO 64802. Needless to say, there are many expenses beyond what insurance companies will pay.

Just as important as financial help, please remember them in your prayers. Also please feel free to forward this on to others. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call or write.
Greetings!

It is hoped this email finds you well. Things are decidedly getting busier for the month of April. It seems there is a gospel meeting nearly every day that we have had the opportunity to attend. It is such a blessing to be able to start spring in this fashion - Cleaning the cobwebs of the mind!

Attached is the newsletter for April including some words in regard to Spurs. Please feel free to use the entire newsletter as a tool for your edification both individually and at your congregations.

This month has been a particularly busy month as I myself prepare for upcoming travels so there are fewer articles than normal. However, posted at http://www.thatchristianwebsite.com/articles.html are the following new articles: Having an Answer (Part 2), Having an Answer (Part 1), The High Dive, The Prisoners Dilemma, The Question of Liking, Holy Dwellings and God's Association with Them, When Love Isn't Really Love, Resolution and Forgiveness, and Making Choices.

A special thank you to my friend Erik Smith of the Prairie Hills Church of Christ in Saint Joseph, Missouri, who has also begun to submit articles to the site on a frequent basis. In the next few months, I will be unrolling a new website which presents only articles. If there are those who are interested in regularly submitting to that work, please contact me.

As always new audio sermons and outlines have been added to the website this month. I hope they are a useful help to you.
*********************

Making Choices

“To choose or not to choose” – That is the choice. How many decisions does a person make each day consciously and unconsciously? Wake or snooze? Oatmeal or cereal? Hat or no hat? Bus or car? Cranky or smiley? Pay bills or wait? Aaarrghgh! So many decisions are processed. In the grand scheme of things, most decisions are relatively simple; however, there are big hairy decisions that are always lurking. From the beginning it has been this way. How long did Adam and Eve go before they ate the fruit? What went through their minds before the decision was made? Did they ever talk about it before it happened?

Consider these four questions regarding choice making: First, what is the purpose of choices? Second, how does satisfaction relate to choices? Third, what is the relationship between control and choices? Finally, how should a person prepare for choices?

What is the Purpose of Choices?
Many people wonder why they were created. Two key scriptures sum up man’s purpose well. Ecclesiastes 11:13 establishes man is to revere God and keep His commandments. Ephesians 2:10 establishes man was created to do good works. These two verses work together to give man direction in his life. Still, this does not clarify the purpose of choice. When an individual does not have choice, they are slaves. They might as well be robots. However, God did not want this for man. God loves man dearly (John 3:16). God gave men choices so they might ultimately glorify Him. This is the first purpose of choice. Many would argue God has failed miserably when the vast amount of evil in the world is seen. Consider though, the blessing of the freedom God has given man to choose evil. In choosing evil, man demonstrates the superiority of walking in Godliness (I Peter 2:15). A person loving God chooses to be His bond servant. That is, they voluntarily choose to obey His will knowi
ng it will result in far greater benefit than sinfulness (Isaiah 55:6-9). The concept is like understanding how white something truly is when it has a dark spot on it.

In addition to the freedom of choice ultimately glorifying God, it also enables man to mature. Without choices how would man develop knowledge? Certainly, man can make choices which are holy and pure and grow in Christ. However, if man chooses to do unwise things, he will gain knowledge there as well. If a child puts his hand in the fire, he will be burned. Wisely, he learns not to repeat his action. Sadly, many an adult chooses to engage poor decision after poor decision expecting a different result. To meet the objective of a life of doing well in God’s eyes, God has given the Bible (2 Timothy 2:16-17, Ephesians 4:14-16). This enables man to mature properly. God encourages man to awake to this growth (I Corinthians 15:34). However, the choice is not forced upon man. Glorification of God’s wisdom and the maturity of man is what God desires from man’s choices.

How Does Satisfaction Relate to Choices?
Not many years ago, families had phones which did not travel with them. The phones were attached to the wall. People were grateful to have the phones there. Again, not long ago, many families were able to receive one maybe two channels on their television sets. The pictures were sometimes fuzzy and the stations would stop broadcasting around midnight. Again, there was gratefulness. Today, phones can go practically anywhere and there is no sharing of a phone signal with multiple families. Televisions are an inch thick and get 1000 channels. They broadcast 24 hours a day. It would make sense if satisfaction were at 100% with the modern devices. Yet, this is not the case. Increased choices have not resulted in increased satisfaction.

Choices abound today! From breakfast cereal to laptop, dress material to hair color, and fast food to automobile, there is a never ending variety of decisions to be made. Yet, so many decisions have resulted in increased agony. How many couples drive an hour stressed about what restaurant they should stop at to eat? I know men who have stood shell shocked in the pasta aisle not being sure what noodle they should buy. Children watch television and see the next best toy they should own. They can’t be happy until they get it. Stop and think about how happy they were playing with Tupperware lids in the kitchen before they discovered they had choices? Making a decision is much less stressful when there are few choices. The more variables, size, scent, color, texture, attachments, accessories, etc. the more time consuming and fretful the decision becomes (Ecclesiastes 12:7-8).

How many choices do individuals make with good stewardship in mind? There are millions of practically new and unused items sold at garage sales and given to thrift stores each year because the “must have” turned out to be the “don’t need”. There are two consequences to all decisions: dissatisfaction and contentment. Certainly, all choices have a cost. To choose one item, you give up another. The man who chooses to go worship Sunday morning may miss a round of golf, a football game, or a chance to sleep in. When he chooses tacos for dinner, he misses out on pizza. Perhaps this is why buffets are so popular. So every possible choice can be made. Yet, at the end of the meal, bloated and woogie, dissatisfaction is often experienced. The challenge before man is to find contentment. When the proper choices are made, contentment can reign (I Timothy 6:6). Always prepared, God has given man a path to choose which will lead to contentment in all things. Is there food and
clothing? Let there be contentment (I Timothy 6:8). Whatever a man’s position is in life, if he is with God, let him be content (Philippians 4:11). God will not fail those whose eyes are on Him and not the possessions of the world (Hebrews 13:5).

What is the Relationship between Control and Choices?
How many people are backseat drivers? There is a desire for control! What about arm chair quarterbacks? The individual believes if they were in control for a moment things would have turned out differently. Every young person looks forward to the day they will have more control. Senior folks often do not look forward to the time when they must relinquish control. There are three distinct phases to consider when examining control and choices. These phases are 1) obtaining control, 2) maintaining control, and 3) handing over control.

Obtaining control starts with youth. Toddlers will let you know this. “My toys, my game, my rules” has been an oft repeated refrain. Each individual believes they can make better decisions than someone else. However, oftentimes the desire is simply for the freedom to try something on one’s own regardless of consequence. Who wants to follow the recipe? Bah! Let’s throw in more garlic! Control is often associated with power. If you have power, it is assumed you will get reward and pleasure above those without power or be able to clearly display your decision making prowess. Thus, there is frequent struggle to gain control in many areas of life. Even in marriages there are battles over “who wears the pants in the family.” Every individual is given control over certain aspects of their life by God. He has given people complete control over their decisions regarding salvation (Philippians 2:12). Yes, God has established His Will in regard to the scope of control for
man, but he does not stop man from choosing his own way (Ephesians 6:1, I Corinthians 11:3).

Maintaining control over choices is something with which many struggle. Once they have obtained the freedom to make choices, the fear is it will be taken away. Someone may sneak the television remote away at a time of distraction. Mom or dad may take the keys to the car. The boss may transfer an individual to another position. The government may force its citizens to buy health insurance. These are all classic concerns that come with maintaining control of choices. The biggest factor in maintaining control over choices is the individual’s own behaviors. Violating family rules results in removal of privileges. Politicians ignoring the voters get voted out or impeached. Trying crystal meth causes one to become a slave to a substance and give up control (2 Timothy 4:5). When man submits to false teachings, he cannot maintain control (Galatians 2:2-5). A Christian must maintain self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Therefore, Christians must be careful by whom and what t
hey are influenced because the pull of the world will bring about the loss of freedom (Galatians 5:1).

To have control, the Christian must hand over control. This is the paradox of control. It is like the Chinese finger trap. You must give up the struggle to find release. Many a senior reaches a point where they can no longer care for themselves and their possessions properly. Yet, a great many refuse to give up control to those who could help. Consequently, their surroundings fall into disrepair, their health fails, and they find themselves in a state of enslavement to weakness built on the decision to not release control. If the same seniors released a little control to those who could aid them, a larger portion of personal control would be retained and for much longer. The man of faith controls which master he serves (Joshua 24:15). He can choose to serve God or his own lusts in the form of sin (Romans 6:16-18). Being a slave of righteousness results in having more control and for eternity, but such control cannot be gained until the choice to hand over control is
first made(Romans 2:6-8).

How should a person prepare for choices?
Can a man prepare for the choices ahead of him? Certainly he can. Successful diet choices are much easier when healthy food is stocked and available. The Red Cross is successful in providing blood to others because it chooses to gather donations before disaster occurs. The ant prepares for the hard winter, by making the choice to work when the weather is better (Proverbs 6:6-8). Is a man worried about how he will care for himself when he is old? He can prepare by putting aside a savings. He can prepare by living simply. He can prepare by surrounding himself with those who will aid him when the time comes.

Educating oneself to make proper decisions is important. If a person needs a vehicle, he should research the type of vehicles which will meet his needs. Choosing a college, but have a budget? Research inexpensive colleges! Searching for a woman or man to marry? Research! Educate yourself. Ask questions, talk to people, and consider where you need to look to find the mate for whom you are looking. Concerned about eternity? Educate yourself on what choices need to be made. “Seek and ye shall find!” (Matthew 7:7) The Bible has the answers you need for life and Godliness (2 Peter 1:3). Why would an individual not prepare for the choices ahead of him? (Luke 14:28)

When choices present themselves, prioritize them. The Christian has a mandate to put God first in his life (Matthew 4:10, Matthew 6:33, Matthew 22:37). If a man has the choice to pay his cable bill or pay his rent, he would wisely choose the thing of greater value… YES! THE RENT! Likewise, in prioritizing life choices, God comes before self. Self dies to serve the Lord (Galatians 2:20). A list of prioritization enables one to order their life. It makes the path clearer and sets chaotic stress aside. God is not a God of confusion, nor should a man’s life be one of confusion (I Corinthians 14:33). The passage of I Corinthians 14 discusses the assembly of worship before God. It declares things should be done “properly and in orderly manner”. If this is the proper mode of function for the Lord’s body, why should the life of man be directed in any other way?

Summation of Choice
Making choices is something every coherent individual must engage in. Choices await man from the simple to the grand. Knowing the purpose of choices enables the making of choices which lead to satisfaction. Control over choices is a desired state, but the proper balance must be met, knowing when to maintain control of choices and when to hand control over. If the individual educates and prioritizes his choices according to the principle of “God first”, he will find himself far better prepared to handle choices when they come. The first and wisest choice a person can make is to humble himself before God and clothe himself in Christ (Galatians 3:26-29).

Psalms 25:12 - What man is he that feareth Jehovah? Him shall he instruct in the way that he shall choose.

Greetings and Salutations!

Attached you will find the March Newsletter for That Christian Website. Please feel free to use it personally or for your congregations. You can point others online to it by directing them to: http://thatchristianwebsite.com/newsletter.html .

March is upon us! Much has happened this last month. My family and I were able to visit three different congregations in addition to our home congregation in Fredericktown, Ohio. We visited congregations in Utica, Lima, and Kenton, Ohio. The folks were warm and inviting as always. It is so good to have Christian brothers and sisters wherever you go. My son participated in leading songs in Utica, serving communion in Fredericktown, and scripture reading in Lima. It is really a joy to a father to see his son serving the Lord.

That Christian Website had over 92,000 hits in February, this occurred despite some interruptions which kept me from providing as many articles and sermons as I would have preferred. New audio lessons and outlines available are: Acts 4-8 and “Don’t let the sun go down”. These can be found in the sermons section. New articles posted are: “Make Up Your Mind”, “The Seven Stages of Life”, “Got Courage”, “Holy Spirit Indwelling? Literal or Representative”, “Gift of the Holy Spirit – Indwelling?”, “Being Filled with the Holy Spirit and Indwelling”, “Sealed with the Spirit – Indwelling?”, “Benefit of a Literal Indwelling?”, “Miraculous Indwelling of the Holy Spirit Today?”, “The Abundant Life”, and “Growing in Grace and Knowledge”. The articles can be found at http://www.thatchristianwebsite.com/articles.html

For individuals looking for a project for which to lend support, the Preachers Files website is seeking support. One of the larger and rapidly growing websites on the internet today, its efforts reach countries all over the world. I personally participate in the Preachers Files lectureship each year and have found a wealth of information on the site. For a clearer picture of the need at the website, please see the following URL posted by the websites operator, Eddie Watkins: http://preachersfiles.com/its-time-to-make-a-change/ .

Thank you as always for your visits, emails, and prayers. The Gospel is being spread and it makes each day bright for me to see a world hungry for the truth. Please continue to bookmark, Stumble, Facebook, link to, tweet, or any other thing you can do to help increase the presence of That Christian Website. It is greatly appreciated.

God Bless,
Greetings to all!

All goes well here in the midst of snow. The family is doing well and we are dreaming of spring flowers. Wherever you are, we wish you well.

Attached you will find the February Newsletter for That Christian Website. Please feel free to use it personally or for your congregations. There are a number of changes to it this month enabling you to sharpen your mind in many ways.

For those looking for free books on Mormonism or Evolution, Jon Gary Williams has a large number he is providing for free. If you have an interest in this, please contact me via email and I will get you set up.

The month of January saw That Christian Website shatter all traffic records and seven days in the site is already 70% of that amount. This is in large part to your linking, facebooking, stumbling, and other efforts to spread the gospel which the site presents. Thank you. More sermons have been added this month as well as a large number of articles. A list of articles can be found at http://www.thatchristianwebsite.com/articles.html . Titles new this month include: Friendship, Assumptions, Unforgivable Sin, A Second Chance for the Dead, Constrained by Law, Should I Marry Her?, Manasseh, They Took Him Aside, Dress Test for Men, Dress Test for Women, Who is My Brother, Don't Let the Sun Go Down, Do You Remember the Bhagwan?, Civility and Censorship, My Tattoo of Jesus, and An Agreement Established with Blood.

One addition that will be growing throughout this month along with the sermons and articles is a new Photo Gallery. The point of this is to provide photo's of God's Creation that I have been able to gather over the years. Aside from God's Word, it is God's creation that causes man to realize there is a God. Creation pushes a man to seek His creator. Hopefully, this addition will be found useful and enjoyable.
